Volvo to recall over 12000 imported S60s and XC60s in China

   Date:2012-03-27

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai March 26) - Volvo has sent a report to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine ordering a recall of its 2012 model year S60 sedans and XC60 crossovers, auto.sohu.com reported today. The recall will target a total of 12,798 vehicles in use in the Chinese mainland, and is being issued due to two identified problems.

The first, more widespread issue affecting 11,119 S60s and XC60s is a flaw with the side airbag wiring, which may not have been properly installed during manufacture. The wiring may become unstable during seat configuration or when the vehicle is being reversed. In extreme cases, the wiring may detach itself from the seat, which will cause an alert to display on the dashboard. If left untreated, the airbags will not be able to deploy in the event of a crash. The flaw affects vehicles manufactured between mid-May and early September of 2011.

The second flaw affects 1,679 vehicles driven in China, produced in the first two months of this year. The chassis undercoating in these vehicles may contact and rub against the fuel pipe. Sustained friction between the undercoating and the pipe may lead to fuel leaks, which may cause a fire under extreme conditions.

The manufacturer will order Volvo-authorized dealers throughout the country to request owners of affected vehicles to schedule an appointment for free inspection and maintenance. Vehicles in inventories will also be serviced before being sold.
