Geely launches first of 3 crossovers planned for 2016

   Date:2016/03/29
The first of three new Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. crossovers planned this year went on sale on Saturday.

The Boyue has a starting price of 98,800 yuan ($15,200). It is 4,519 mm long, 1,831 mm wide and 1,694 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,670 mm.

The vehicle offers three powertrain combinations: a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine with a five-speed manual gearbox; or a 1.8-liter turbocharged engine with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

The Baoyue is the second model that Geely has developed on its new vehicle platform, codenamed NL. The first model from the platform was the GC9 mid-sized sedan, which went on sale a year ago.

Geely plans to launch two more crossovers, dubbed GS and NL-4, later this year. Both will share the same platform as the Baoyue.

The three new models will replace Geely's three current crossovers, which have sold poorly despite China's infatuation with crossovers and SUVs.

In the first two months, Geely's overall vehicle sales edged up 2 percent year on year to 93,420 vehicles. But combined deliveries of its three crossovers -- the GX7, SX7 and GX9 -- plunged 36 percent to 7,735 vehicles.
