A definite development schedule has been given to 3G mobile telecom in China. A broad range of new telecom services like multimedia services, mobile banking etc. will be offered by 3G, whereas current mobile telecommunication services focus mainly on voice business. Also, consumers will enjoy more exciting mobile life and much improved quality of services.

Launch of 3G strategies will offer hordes of opportunities for mobile handset and equipment suppliers, in China, to grow internationally. Besides mobile operators, fixed line operators will also benefit from 3G strategies. With low fees and low-end terminals operators are all set to lure customers.

China Unicom and China Mobile have plans to develop 3G subscribers on 2G platforms. Mid and high-end users, with strong data service demands, will be the targets of these two companies.

By the end of June 2005, Hong Kong and China made up for about 4Mn 3G Subscriber base. Owing to the improvement in network construction, proportion of 3G subscribers is expected to reach 39 percent in the next four-five years.
