China Unicom to upgrade broadband in Shanghai

Over the next two years, China Unicom will invest CNY 8 billion to upgrade broadband in Shanghai. Unicom will increase family speeds to 30 Mbps, roll out more Wi-Fi hotspots, upgrade its mobile network, and test 4G technology in Shanghai, the Shanghai Daily reports. The communications firm plans to build some 7,000 new Wi-Fi hotspots to expand the current level of 2,000 hotspots and has picked the city as the first to test 4G sevices. "China Unicom is fully committed to Shanghai's innovation plan to establish itself as a 'smart city,'" Chang Xiaobing, China Unicom's chairman, said.
