Zhou Jianming, GM of China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) technology division, said recently that the operator had completed IPv6 testing for TD-LTE equipment from eight manufacturers. Six IPv6 chips supporting LTE are currently available, and are used in eight IPv6-enabled LTE terminals including data cards, personal ("MiFi") routers, and CPEs.

China Mobile launched IPv6 trials in nine provinces and municipalities last year, and most of its metropolitan area networks currently support IPv6 traffic. China Mobile upgraded some of its networks in Beijing in June 2011 to add support for TD-SCDMA terminals accessing the internet over IPv6. In the area of terminals, China Mobile has worked with Chinese TD-SCDMA chip maker Leadcore Technology, a subsidiary of the Datang Group, Marvell, and telecom equipment and terminal manufacturer ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), among other manufacturers, to release two TD-SCDMA chip and mobile phone reference design products supporting IPv6.
