China Mobile makes 1.5 bln USD investment in Pakistan

CEO of CMPak , China Mobile's wholely owned subsidiary in Pakistan, Fan Yunjun Thursday said that CMPak has made a cumulative investment of 1.5 billion U.S. dollars in Pakistan in 4 years and it has deposited 26 billion rupees (289 million US dollars) as taxes during the same period.

Fan Yunjun made the statement when calling on Pakistani Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani at the Prime Minister House and presented him a cheque of 1 million rupees (11,000 dollars) for the Flood Relief Fund of the prime minister, a prime minister office statement said.

Fan Yunjun said that China Mobile was the largest telecom service provider worldwide, adding that CMPak was keen to invest in 3-G technology.

He said that CMPak wants to extend its operations to new heights which would provide job opportunities to youth in various fields benefiting from its future projects.

Speaking on the occasion, the prime minister said that Pakistan and China enjoyed time-tested friendship and the year of 2011 was declared as the year of Pakistan-China friendship to celebrate the 60 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries.

The prime minister recalled the visit of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his visit to China, which were a clear manifestation of the depth of bilateral relations between both countries.

The prime minister appreciated the services of CMPak which had reached the figure of 13.2 million subscribers and had contributed an amount of 26 billion rupees (289 million dollars) in the national exchequer over a period of four years as taxes besides providing thousands of job opportunities to the youth of Pakistan.

The prime minister directed the Secretary, Ministry information Technology to help CMPak in resolving difficulties in the implementation of their extension projects.
