China Electric Bicycle Industry Report, 2009

China is the world's largest producer and distributor of electric bicycles. In 2009, China's output of electric bicycle reached 22.2 million, a 1.5% yr-on-yr rise. With the importance increasingly attached to environment-friendly and clean products as well as the adjustments and regulations made by Chinese Government in electric bicycle industry, Chinese E-bicycle market will expand further.

Seen from regional development, the production of electric bicycles in China clusters in the following five regions, i.e., Tianjin, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong, and Shanghai. In 2008, Tianjin output of electric bicycles amounted to 6.51 million, accounting for 29.8% of China's total output; Zhejiang 4.97 million, taking 22.7% in national total. Owing to the financial crisis, the market in 2009 fluctuated a bit but the market layout still remained unchanged as a whole. In the future, Tianjin will still lead Chinese electric bicycle market, and the market share of Zhejiang’s annual output of electric bicycles will increase to 25% under the drive of large-scale and cluster production mode.
